Since the Chicago Bears have been in the NFL, they have always had difficulties when it comes to the quarterback position. The Bear’s history with drafting and developing quarterbacks is problematic to this day. The Chicago Bears most recent challenge is deciding between the current starting quarterback, Justin Fields, and the upcoming prospect in the 2024 NFL draft, Caleb Williams. The Chicago Bears fan base and even fans of other NFL teams are divided by the two quarterbacks.

There are positives and negatives to both of these quarterbacks. Justin Fields will be in his 4th season in the 2024 -2025 NFL season, and in his first three seasons, Justin Fields accumulated 6,674 passing yards, 2,220 rushing yards, 54 total touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. Caleb Williams statistics for his three years with the USC Trojans accumulated 10,082 passing yards, 960 rushing yards, 120 total touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Even the Grayslake Central community is torn on the future of the Chicago Bears quarterback.

Science teacher and baseball coach Alexander Hord was asked how he felt about the quarterback situation going on in Chicago, and he said,” I don’t think we’re in the best situation, but I don’t think the situation for the quarterback has also been the best.” When asked his opinion on both quarterbacks currently in the discussion, he said, “I think it’s a very simple prospect. I think if someone was your franchise quarterback after three years, you would know. I think the fact that you even have to ask the question kind of shows that you’re not sure.” In Hord’s opinion, the Chicago Bears should look for a new QB. “I think if you were keeping Justin Fields you would know you would want to keep him by now, the fact you have to argue it and defend it probably means that he’s probably not your guy, so I would take Caleb Williams, reset the quarterback clock, and go from there”.

From NBC Sports Chicago two reporters gave their opinions on the topic, firstly a Chicago Bears insider Josh Schrock stated “As long as Ryan Poles is confident that the Bears can handle what comes with Caleb Williams, this franchise, the arrow is pointing up.” Reporter Sean Hammond from Shaw Media replied to the continuing question with “I have the same feeling that I think we are all kinda feeling, that it’s looking like Caleb Willaims for the Bears.” In conclusion, this is one of the most important offseasons in Bears history because of that big question mark at the most important position on the field. Will the Bears take the chance at keeping Justin Fields or take the risk and draft the biggest prospect in the 2024 NFL draft? Only time will tell.

General Manager Ryan Poles chose to trade their current Quarterback, Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Chicago Bears got in return, a 6th round pick that could turn into a 4th round pick if Fields plays more than half of the season in 2024. The reasoning behind why Justin Fields got traded to the Steelers in particular, was because there were five teams that were interested in trading for Fields. Before this trade, general manager Ryan Poles made sure to continue respecting Justin, and he took his wants into consideration before the trade. Fields wanted to only go to the Pittsburgh Steelers out of the teams that wanted him. Since now the Bears are in need of a Quarterback, they now have the opportunity to get one the biggest Quarterback prospects in history, Caleb Williams.

Williams will be surrounded by the best roster the Bears have had since the 2018 season, all the pressure is now on the shoulder of Williams. Will he succeed or not with the Chicago Bears? We will have to wait and see come the 2024-2025 NFL season.
