Grayslake Central’s baseball season has finally started and they’re looking as strong as ever. This is one of four seasons since 2010 where the team has started 5-0. The average win differential of the team so far is 9.8 which means they aren’t just winning – they are demolishing their opponents.
Rampage talked to one starter, Carson Woods, who has been playing baseball for twelve years. When asked about which side of the ball looks stronger in the preseason, Woods said “I think we are pretty well rounded on both sides of the ball. For hitting we have a strong front end of the lineup that we can rely on and a lot of guys that have the potential to step up. It’s a very similar case with pitching. We have some guys that we know will perform and some guys that have that same potential.”
Woods’ favorite part about playing baseball for Grayslake Central “is the community that backs our team. It is special to see how much support we get at certain events, like fundraisers.”
Coach Troy Whalen who has been coaching the Grayslake Central baseball team for 23 years. Whalen mentioned that he wants to preach “teamwork” and “coachability” and “that baseball’s a game of failure and that if you go three for 10 shooting free throws or completing passes it isn’t that good, but going three for 10 hitting is elite at the baseball level.”

This team has shown they are worth watching and have a strong chance of winning many more games and maybe even make state this year. The next game is on Wednesday, April 23 at 4:45pm.
