The 2021 boys bowling season is successful this school year, having been moved to February and March. Varsity head coach Bryan Dovichi explains that with all the new changes, teams have had to adapt to, this team is still playing at a high level. With the new season, some schools are only allowing virtual matches, in which the Rams are participating.

This team has been undefeated for most of the season until one match they were not aware of and not prepared for, according to senior bowler Cameron Porembski.

“We’re undefeated in matches in-person at all levels. But we lost our first virtual match to Stevenson,” said Dovichi.

Virtual matches have made it different this season for bowling. Not all schools are competing in person, but now competing virtually. This has made it difficult because it is a big change for players.

“Some schools elected to bowl only virtual matches versus competing in-person. This is difficult due to different alley’s playing conditions. But in the end, we’re just lucky to be able to play!” said Dovichi.

The new rules and precautions this season have had its pros and cons. Everyone needs to be cautious to make sure everyone is staying safe like social distancing and wearing masks, but now bowlers are able to have their own lanes, and this saves time.

According to Dovichi, “Coaching around the pandemic has been challenging to say the least. Checking the bowlers in on a daily basis and wearing masks has been a change, but our bowlers also get to bowl on their own lane. We’ve increased productivity in less time!”

Even though this team has been faced with many challenges this year, they are already looking toward the future. Team captain Jaeger Breault explains, “My role as captain is to really be a team motivator and be there for my guys when they need to get picked up.” Breault continues, “Our team focuses on competition and brotherhood, so that we can better ourselves and the future players.”
