Two girl Varsity tennis players from Grayslake Central High School, a junior Madison Hoffmann, and a senior Natalia Malaczek made it through Conference undefeated, took second in Sectionals and made it to State while only experiencing two individual pair losses all season.
Despite the two losses, they won three matches at State, which is better than previous seasons for Grayslake Central High School. Natalia Malaczek and Madison Hoffmann put in a lot of individual effort, but they also needed help from their coach Chuck Lawson to be successful. Getting to this spot took a lot of effort and time according to Coach Lawson.
“It’s all about the amount of time you put in and if you put a lot of time in then you’re going to get better,” he said.
While putting in lots of time and effort got them this far, so did the girls’ ability to work well together and having a strong bond helped make the season a success, as well as a fun time.
“I think that’s part of why we were so successful because we actually enjoy each other’s company,” said Natalia Malaczek. Having such a compatible friendship off the court was a huge help and made the girls want to do even better.
“Natalia and I are so close and this made it like so much more fun,” said Madison Hoffmann. This was both the girls first and last season playing together since Natalia is graduating this year.
They only played one season together but built a strong friendship throughout the season and dominated on the court.
Having this friendship really pushed both of them to strive to do better and to get further in the season.
“So, just having those people to bond with really pushed you,” said Natalia Malaczek.
Sadly, this is the last of the impressive duo. The tennis season taught both girls many lifelong lessons and gave them memorable experiences.
Both Natalia Malaczek and Madison Hoffmann are huge inspirations to many other tennis players at GCHS, and are leaving legacy for future tennis players to live up to.
