With the holiday season in full swing, many are wondering what fun activities are still happening and how to stay safe with COVID-19 still on the rise. The Lake County website has all the information you need to know to stay safe and has a list of activities going on this December. For example, on Dec. 18, The Mundelein Park District will be presenting their Friday Flick, being the movie “Elf” at 6 pm inside the Dunbar Recreation Center. Pack blankets and chairs and plan to social distance while watching one popular Christmas movie.

Another activity for all ages is Six Flags Great America’s “Holiday in the Park” light show going on through Dec. 30. Although rides will be closed, there are still plenty of fun activities including over 2.5 million twinkling lights. To stay safe, they will limit capacity in the park and enforce social distancing. Senior Ana Boucek speaks about her winter break, Christmas, and how she will stay safe, as well as what fun activities she will be participating in.

Boucek will mostly be staying inside and she won’t be going out. Boucek said, “My sister is already home from college, and a family tradition that we do every year is having my grandma come over and bake Christmas cookies; however, we will be wearing masks if she does come over.”

Baking cookies is another cheerful stay-at-home activity.  One cookie recipe that is traditional around the holidays is making sugar cookies and then decorating them. This recipe is great for the whole family to enjoy. You can make them in all different shapes and sizes too. You can find a great recipe to follow on this link

One other holiday event coming up includes Santa’s Rockin’ Lights. This event is a drive-through light show including over 700 feet of drive-through light tunnels. A great way to see tons of blinking lights from the warmth and safety of your car. Santa’s Rockin lights will go through December 27th in Grayslake at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Although COVID puts a pause to many traditional events this holiday season, everyone can still celebrate the time of year while staying safe with friends and family. Keep a sense of normality by celebrating with family indoors and by wishing everyone a safe and fun-filled holiday season.
