Grayslake is a vast and diverse community, whose food scene reflects that. With restaurants ranging from cheap fast food like McDonald’s all the way to high quality restaurants like The Vine, the choice of what to eat can be overwhelming. We have compiled a guide of Grayslake’s food based on what Grayslake Central’s population enjoys, prices included. Throughout our interviews and research, we consistently saw three restaurants pop up; Something’s Brewing, The Freeze, and Twisted Burger. Let’s take a more in-depth look at the food the Ramily can’t get enough of!
At Something’s Brewing, the BLT ($8.79), is loved by sophomore Lily. Emma, a sophomore at Central is a fan of the Chicken Caesar Wrap ($8.79). We were told consistently that Something’s Brewing’s sandwiches are quite good. Sandwiches at Something’s Brewing are on average $9.05. Beverage wise, Freshmen Adeena is partial to the Caramel Latte ($5.79).
Beloved Grayslake ice cream joint, The Freeze, is much loved by the GCHS community. The Stack Burger was mentioned by two separate GCHS students as a favorite, which costs $5.50. And, no surprise here, we were told multiple times that The Freeze’s ice cream was a favorite, which averages at around $5.27.
Twisted Burger offers a wide variety of burgers, from the California Burger, a burger with cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, and chipotle mayo, ($9.95), to the Mack Attack, a burger topped with creamy Mac & Cheese and crispy bacon ($9.50). The Shroomer is another favorite burger, featuring piles of grilled mushrooms and Swiss cheese. As their names suggest, Twisted Burger’s burger selection is clearly a show stopper. We were also told their Cheesy Fries, which go for only $2.75, are absolutely delicious.
Some honorable mentions of downtown Grayslake’s food scene are First Draft’s Cheese Curds and Emil’s Chicken Caesar Wrap and Chicken Tenders. The Vine is also a crowd favorite. Librarian paraprofessional Susan Zamudio, said that, “I like everything that I’ve had [from The Vine],” which speaks for itself.
