Pride Month is less than a month away, starting on Thursday, June 1. Pride Month is a month dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride.. Pride Month was conceived on June 28th, 1970, a year after the Stonewall Riots. The Stonewall Riots occurred after New York City police entered Stonewall Inn, a gay bar, armed with a warrant for and beat patrons, and arrested 13 people, including employees, and people violating the state’s gender-appropriate clothing statute.

Day of Silence Sends Loud Message

The day of silence is a day that is very important to those a part of the LGBTQIA+ community though it isn’t very known everywhere. Grayslake Central participated in the day of silence on April 14th 2023, and many years before. The day of silence is a student lead day of action for those who support making anti-LGBT bulling and harassment unacceptable in schools by staying silent to represent how students in the LGBTQ community are silenced.The day of silence is a day that is very important to those a part of the LGBTQIA+ community though it isn’t very known everywhere. To help improve the wonderful school environment that Grayslake Central creates, we could add things that range from advocating support groups speaking out about mental health, to dedicated quiet spaces meant for decompressing when needed.
