As the temperature drops and people start to break out the warm comfy clothes, more time is spent enjoying the beautiful Autumn environment with loved ones to embrace. Large crowds of people line up at festivals, eager to celebrate the fall season. Senior Braeden Hicks said, “I have gone to many pumpkin patches ever since I was a child, so I have many experiences there. I liked going there to get pumpkins to carve, often with my family.” Autumn traditions emphasize the importance of building relationships, and Lake County provides many opportunities to do so. From picking apples to escaping corn mazes, Midwesterners have a lot to do when the leaves start changing color.

As the Halloween season approaches, a festively spooky atmosphere descends upon the Lake County area. Fright Fest at Six Flags Great America is a perfect Halloween family outing, with actors putting on a great show for kids and adults alike. According to Samantha Davis-Friedman from Attractions Magazine, “Six Flags guests will be able to experience ‘Thrills by Day’ and ‘Fright by Night’ with daytime Trick-or-Treat trails, story-telling, interactive dance parties, and pictures with the Looney Tunes characters.” Everything changes at 6pm, though, when the scare actors let loose and embrace the Halloween spirit by haunting Six Flags visitors.

Petting zoos become especially popular around the Fall time, but Richardson’s Adventure Farm offers so much more. Visitors can lose themselves in massive corn mazes, indulge in autumnal food favorites, and cheer on the winning pigs as they race.  Jeff, an employee and animal caretaker at Richardson’s said, “The pig races are always a lot of fun, especially when you get a lot of people.” Richardson’s is an amazing place for everyone who celebrates the fall season. From haunted houses to pumpkin patches, residents of Lake County who want to celebrate Autumn have a lot of options to choose from! Happy Fall!
