This is one of the best years Grayslake Central has ever had in boys varsity wrestling. That team is led by two lightweight wrestling brothers Vince and Dom DeMarco. Dom finished 3rd in the state in the 106lb weight class and Vince finished 1st in the 113lb weight class.

Dom feels he could have done a little bit more in the tournament but is still happy with his success. Dom is a Freshman and Vince is a Junior. Vince in his championship match went up against Christian Corcoran from Providence Catholic High School. It was a really close match, but because of Vince’s one takedown it made the difference in who the winner was. Vince came out on top with a score of 4 to 2. In Dom DeMarcos 3rd place match he went up against Symon Woods from Washington Community High School. The final score was 21 to 6 in Dom’s favor. He dominated taking down Woods many times.
Vince DeMarco talked about his favorite memory of the tournament besides finishing 1st. “It was really fun to win my semi-final match, because, like, after I won pretty dominantly, I knew that I got to be in the Grand March and the state video, so that was really cool.”
The Grand March is a storied state tradition in IHSA and is nothing to scoff at. Vince is grateful for that opportunity. As well as being able to represent his school in a state tournament. Dom commented on how he feels he could have done better to advance even farther than third place in his weight class. “I think maybe in my semifinals match, I think maybe I could have wrestled a bit more open and more free. Because I think I didn’t really get to my offense as well, just because of the moment.” Dom feels he could have been a little less timid and thinks that’s ultimately what cost him in the semifinal match. Dom and Vince train together outside of just Grayslake Central. A freshman beating a Senior in the third place match in state is no little feat. Grayslake Central wrestler and teammate of Vince and Dom DeMarco Krish Sahu, who took 6th place in the 126lbs weight class, said what it’s like to have such a good individual wrestling team. “It was awesome, and those good individuals are the reason I placed (6th).”
The Rams have great talent right now and great talent for the future. Dom and Vince will be together for one more year next season. Next season they both want 1st.
