Ms. Jazmyne Garcia, a Grayslake Central math and computer science teacher and sponsor of GCHS Student Council, is now the newest cheer coach for the Grayslake Central Cheer program, and she has high hopes for the new position, aiming for state.
Garcia has coached cheerleading in the past before at Round Lake High School. She said it was different than her current coaching position because “students understand what you’re saying a lot faster. By the time they reach high school, a lot of athletes have participated in the sport for a long time, and they are way more advanced.” Ms. Garcia also said she felt “very welcomed, immediately,” by the current Central cheer coaches and team as a whole.
Garcia is very involved at Grayslake Central, and coaching cheer has now been added to her long list of accomplishments. Garcia said, “I just want to be involved in a different way… and [the athletes] already are an amazing set of athletes… and [the athletes] know their goal. We obviously want to win state.”
Garcia also said, “I am so thankful that I was welcomed right away. It’s amazing, and I think that’s just one thing about being a Ram, is that a lot of people are so accepting that you can enjoy and join any community and feel welcomed.”
