On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2024, every student who attends Grayslake Central was able to vote in the mock election. Out of 1,419 students, 362 voted which is about ¼ of all students. As to which grade voted the most, it was close to a tie with the seniors at 28.9% and freshmen 2.5 percent behind with 26.4%.
Democrat, Kamala D. Harris, and Tim Walz won the popular vote amongst students who attend Grayslake Central with 55.9%. Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees Donald J. Trump, and J.D. Vance were voted as runner-ups behind Harris/Walz by 16.2%. This differed from the United States’ real election results, where Trump won by 49.80% to Harris. It is so important to vote in the mock election at Grayslake Central because even if you aren’t old enough to vote in the real election you get to vote your opinion through the school.
As President Trump starts his fifth year in office he is quick to make some life-changing decisions. Trump signed an order on his first day and according to NBC the order “declared a national emergency on the U.S.-Mexico border, ordering construction on his border wall to resume and terminating diversity programs in federal agencies” (Gregorian, Ainsley, Asghar, and E. Lee). As shown in our own election opinions are mixed about his decisions.
