GCHS special olympics places fourth at state competition

On Saturday, March 24, Grayslake Central High School and Grayslake North High School athletes competed in a state competition for the Special Olympics team.

GCHS Best Buddies who participated included freshmen Jesse Garay and Henry Pogue and senior Alec Poray. Additionally, Poray was awarded the Spirit Award in the second game.

“It was a lot of fun.” said Pogue. “We went to Illinois State University and stayed over and got to hang out with our team.” Pogue won the Spirit Award for the entire tournament.

“What I’ve learned is that the all have strengths and weaknesses,” said Garay. He also mentioned that they played a fair game and that he enjoyed himself. Pogue felt similarly, saying the “game was game a lot of fun.”

The GCHS athletes ended up placing fourth in their division overall at Illinois State University.
