At Grayslake Central High School, there are no full-body mirrors. Every morning, the girl’s bathroom tends to be busy due to girls getting ready for the day. This affects the occupation of bathroom sinks; when others want to wash their hands, there’s always an awkward stage of having to ask them to move so others are able to wash their hands. Implementing full body mirrors at GCHS could be beneficial in several ways.
Full-body mirrors allow students to check their appearance, and ensure they look presentable throughout the day. This can boost confidence and self-esteem. However, implementing full body mirrors can also lead to students spending the majority of the time in the bathrooms. This decision was rooted in principles of accuracy, fairness, and responsibility, ensuring the initiative was well-founded and beneficial for the students. The idea originated from students at GCHS who spend their time in school bathrooms. It was observed that many students struggled with self-confidence. Providing full-body mirrors could help students develop a better sense of self-image and personal grooming. Furthermore, full-body mirrors could encourage students to take pride in their appearance, leading to increased self-esteem.
It’s important to look at the real reasons behind installing full-body mirrors. They can definitely help students improve our performance by letting us see our whole body and make adjustments. However, we also need to consider the negative side. For some students, constantly seeing their reflection can lead to body image issues and lower self-esteem.
