Suddenly meeting someone may seem spontaneous and nerve-wracking, but when it comes to looking for a significant other, blind dates could be more efficient than speed dating or even online dating. For senior Nichole Miciant, she thought it was a good way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone.

”I think in a way it’s good because it really exposes you to different types of people that you don’t normally get to talk to,” mentioned Miciant.

Going on a blind date gives the opportunity to meet someone that isn’t in your typical environment. In some cultures, it is common for people to go on blind dates. For example, in Korea people don’t date in high school or in college because they want to focus on studying, so after they graduate from college a lot of their relatives encourage them to go on blind dates.

“In the Korean culture, going on blind dates is the norm. After college and once you become [an] adult, everyone pushes you to get married,” senior Erica Joo mentioned.

When going on a date or just hanging out with friends, there are times when it can get awkward because you have nothing to talk about.

“When I went on dates, it was very awkward when we didn’t know each other very well. Dates are supposed to be when you get to know each other a little bit better, and if you have nothing to talk about, what’s the point?” said Miciant.
